How to Make a Valentine's Tic-Tac-Toe Set

Each month there is a different theme with easy to follow instructions and supplies that your kids can use to build the project. This month you can make and play a Valentine's Tic-Tac-Toe game set.

But guess what? My daughter and I also created a set that you can make using items from around your house or picking up at The Home Depot! You and your kids will love either set. Just don't get to frustrated when they show you who is boss at tic-tac-toe!

Make it home using your own supplies:

1. Using a straight edge and a pencil, measure and draw out all the pieces of cardboard you will need. To make the holes in the board, use a small cylinder as a guide. A cookie cutter, bud vase, or anything else small and round will do.

You will need: 2 Game Board Pieces (one with nine holes) 3 ½”x 3 ¾”, 2 side pieces 4” x ¼”, 2 side pieces 4” x ¾”, 2 side pieces 4” x 1 ½”, 1 back piece 3” x 1 ½”, 1 back piece 3” x ¼”, 1 back piece 3” x ¾”, 1 front piece 3 ¾” x ¾”, 1 bottom piece 4” x 3 ¾”

2. Cut out cardboard pieces along the lines using scissors or utility knife.

3. Paint your small rocks that will be the tic-tac-toe pieces. Paint five rocks red and five rocks pink. Let paint dry. Using a permanent marker or paint marker draw an “X” on the pink rocks and a heart on the red rocks.

4. Glue side and back cardboard pieces to the bottom piece, leaving slots on the side and back pieces for the game board to slide into. Make sure slots are matching, edges are even, and not to get glue in the slots.
 

5. Glue front piece on to complete the box. Ensure that it doesn’t cover the slots.

6. Cover box and all seams with pink tape.

 

7. Cover bottom of game board with red tape.

8. Use a marker and straight edge to draw the four lines between the circles on the game board. Place on top of red board. Slide both boards into the slots.

9. You can store the rocks inside the box when you are not playing. Have fun playing tic-tac-toe with your kids!
