If your family is like mine, then you are missing Disneyland and Disney World like crazy! We are huge Disney lovers so my kids requested a Disney lunch as they went back to school after the break. I've made Mickey and Minnie Mouse lunches before, but I wanted to make these a little different. With everything going on in our world, I thought I would give these lunches a 2021 tweak.
My kids wear masks at school so why not include those and make it a little more fun? They are part of our everyday lives now so I decided to build them in. To be honest, they were actually easier to make than creating the bottom part of the faces so it even saved me time. I also like to think that Mickey and Minnie are smiling under those masks!
Along with the Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse sadnwiches, I also included a ton of mouse ears! I picked up the sauce containers, the bands on the carrots, and the mouse ear shaped punchout that I used on the colored mouse ears when I was at Daiso. The grapes with the Mickey ears reminded me of the balloons at Disney that have the mouse ear balloons inside of them. Keep reading to find out how to make the entire lunch for your kids!
Ingredients: Dark bread, turkey, sliced cheese, white cheese, nori, whole wheat tortilla, red apple, rice, sauce for the rice, grapes, sugar paper, icing, fruit or veggies for the background and to go in the rice if wanted. Minnie Mouse also has a strawberry for a bow.
1. Cut Mickey/Minnie Mouse's head and ears out of dark bread. You will need a top and bottom slice. I used a cookie cutter to make it easy. Cut their face out of tortilla. Build sandwich and place in lunchbox.
2. Cut ovals out of white cheese and nori. You can also use nori for the eyebrows and Minnie's eyelashes. Place where shown on face. Use a tiny amount of water to "paste" down the nori in needed. Cut a wedge of red apple and put on lower half of head for the mask.
3. For Minnie's bow, cut the bottom off a strawberry then cut the rest it in half. Arrange as pictured. Surround sandwich with desired fruit and vegetables.
4. Punch out or cut out small mouse ears from edible sugar paper. This paper can be found at your local craft store. Attach to grapes using a dab of icing and place in side compartment.
5. In second side compartment, place rice and any vegetables that your kids would enjoy. Set mouse ear sauce container on top.
Love this idea. Mickey and Minnie are HUGE with my 2.5 year old and this looks like a creative way to get past the stubbornness of a toddler at mealtime. Thanks for sharing!
