If you are a parent who has trouble knowing where to start, when it comes to packing school lunches, then you are in the right place! One of the top questions I get is, "how can I pack healthy lunches when I am short on time and patience." I want to give you some superhero lunch inspiration and then pass on three tips that you can easily you to implement during the hectic back to school time.
Let's start with this Batman lunch! For the sandwich I used two slices of whole wheat bread cut in an oval shape. I "glued" the raisins on with honey to make the Batman logo! When it is lunchtime, your child can put the other slice of bread on top to form the sandwich. I included the Batman themed Chobani Greek Yogurt tube on the side to really complete the Batman feel of the lunch!
Next, up is the Man of Steel Superman lunch. This sandwich is cut in the shape of the Superman
logo, but has cheese on top and meat in the middle. For the red part of the logo, you can use anything red that can be cut in that shape. Even a sticker will work. Don't forget the Chobani Superman Greek Yogurt! My kids love this strawberry flavor.
3 Tips For Packing Healthy School Lunches:
1. Cut up fresh fruit and vegetables in advance.
Some fresh produce can be cut up in bulk on Sundays and stored in a large sealable container. This way you can quickly grab the amount you need, and put it in the lunchbox in a matter of seconds. You can stop fruit, like apples and bananas, from browning by rubbing a little lemon on them. This allows you to prep them the night before. For a little extra fun, put the cut up fruit on fun shaped fruit picks such as in my Batman lunch!
2. Keep healthy and convenient snacks on hand.
Sometimes you are running around like crazy and are just lucky to get your kid to school fully dressed. This is why some lunches have to be packed in under a minute. That is why it's necessary to have healthy and convenient food on hand. We always have convenient food like Chobani Greek Yogurt Tubes in the house. They are made with only natural ingredients, and great source of calcium, protein, and more. They are not only simple throw in a lunchbox, but we also use them as a quick after school snack!
3. Substitute low-fat foods in the place of higher fat foods.
Think of removing high fat foods like mayonnaise from the lunchbox. For example, you can use avocado or Chobani Greek Yogurt, instead of mayo, in recipes such as chicken salad or egg salad. This way your kids can have a great tasting sandwich or side dish, but cut down on the calories and fat. For more substitutions you can make, check out these recipes!
